Building our own home; it's an idea my wife and I had always been aiming for, but up to now the idea has been somewhat in the distance. So now that this idea is no longer just something to look forward to "down the track", we thought it would be a good time to get this idea into motion.
The idea though didn't come automatically, but in a more roundabout way. It involved the idea of moving to the townhouse that Cicilia's parents just purchased and renting the house we currently live in. Then it evolved to selling our current house and building a new house. I might elaborate on this another time.
We had always enjoyed looking at display homes, but before anything else, first and foremost we needed to know that it's something we can support financially. This task was bestowed on to Cicilia; who is the household's "Financial Controller". Once we (mainly Cicilia) ascertained that it's an idea we are able to support; we set our budget and progressed to the next step.
From what I can gather there are two ways to start when building a house. You can either pick the land first (then find the house to suit) or find the house first (then find the land to suit). Cicilia and I decided on the later option. You can also look at house and land package, but none of the houses fit our criteria, so that was out of the equation. So our visits to view display homes resumed. Luckily for us, we both enjoy looking at display homes so it wasn't a "dreaded" thing to do.
Over the past few weeks/months we visited Masterton Display Village at Warwick Farms, the Display Villages at Jordan Springs, Oran Park Town and Homeworld 5 at Kellyville. Previously we had also visited Clarendon Home's display village at Parklea and the display villages at The Ponds. Looking at so many houses is somewhat confusing as everything becomes a blur.
Our more recent visits to display villages (past fortnight or so) have been in a way more "structured", as we know what we are looking for. We created a shortlist of the houses that meets our criteria and that's where we are at now...
